Module 1

Less at a time

Find out what you want to focus on first.

Introduction

What this module is about

Many changes begin with a good intention: We want to do something differently, improve it, or finally tackle it.

But there is an important difference between a wish and a concrete next step. The more things we want to change at the same time, the harder it can become to find a clear starting point at all.

That is why, in this module, you will consciously choose one thing. You will look at what you want to change and use it to develop a clearer focus for your next step.

Your learning goal

This development step is the focus

You can distinguish a general change goal from a specific next step and choose one area to focus on initially.

Your learning path

The activities in this module

Work through the individual steps calmly and at your own pace.

Learning prompt

Aim high, change little

Recognize the difference between a good intention and a concrete next step.

Many changes begin with a sentence like: “I want to exercise more,” “I want to be more organized,” or “I want to make more time for the things that matter.”

Such intentions can provide helpful direction. But they don’t yet say what you will actually do next.

A goal often describes a desired state:

  • more exercise
  • less distraction
  • more order
  • finally tackling something important
  • changing a habit

The problem is not that such goals are too ambitious. At first, they are simply not specific enough to translate into an action Between.

“I want to change something” and “This is what I’ll do next” there is therefore an important step: you need to decide where you want to start. You do not need a complete plan yet. To begin with, it is enough to choose one thing from among the many possible changes.

In the next step of this module, you will find out what that could be for you.

Im nächsten Schritt dieses Moduls findest du heraus, welche das für dich sein könnte.

Step 2 of 3
02
Reflection

What would you like to change right now?

Choose one thing that is currently relevant to you.

Now it’s about your own everyday life. Perhaps there are several things you’d like to change, start, or approach differently.

For this learning experience, you only need to choose one.

Take a moment to think about what is actually occupying your mind right now.

It doesn't have to be your most important goal or a particularly major change. Choose something where you can imagine taking a specific next step.

For now, don't try to develop a perfect plan. Just describe what you would like to change and what should be different as a result.

Your answer will serve as the basis for your personal next step as you continue.

Reflection prompt

What would you like it to be about?

Focus on one thing

What would you currently like to change, start, or do differently in your everyday life?

What exactly should change as a result?

What would tell you that you’ve taken a small step forward?

Step 3 of 3 3 minutes

Learning prompt

One thing is enough.

Focus on what you want to tackle next.

As soon as we start thinking about change, more ideas often emerge. One thing quickly turns into several: I could do that too. And that really ought to change as well.

You don’t need to turn your next step into a major change project.

In the previous activity, you selected one thing. That’s exactly what we’ll stick with.

Instead of asking:

“How can I change everything?”

focus on:

“What is my next meaningful step?”

That doesn’t mean other topics are unimportant. You’re simply deciding what to start with now.

A clear focus reduces the number of decisions you need to make to get started. In the next module, you’ll therefore turn the project you selected into a concrete action for your everyday life.

Reflection prompt

What do you start with?

Make a conscious choice

If you could choose just one thing to focus on for now, which would you like to tackle first?

Phrase it as simply as possible in one sentence:

“I want to …”

To close this activity

Take a brief moment to consciously hold on to the most important thought.

Last activity You have reached the end of the activities in this module. The module closing follows next.

To close

A thought to take with you

You don’t have to tackle everything at once. A clear focus helps you turn a general intention into the next step.
